Metal provides core compute management for Underland.

Core Infra

  • fsc-00.int: metald host and core server
  • ax-metal-00.int: metal-agent (linux/amd64)
  • ax-metal-01.int: metal-agent (linux/amd64)
  • aurora.int: metal-agent (darwin/arm64)
  • horizon.int: metal-agent (darwin/arm64)
  • eclipse.int: metal-agent (darwin/arm64)
  • nebula.int: metal-agent (darwin/arm64)

Deployment

To deploy to Underland, use the following to deploy the Metal platform.

Metal Server

The metald service runs on fsc-00.int. Build this like so:

make GOOS=linux GOARCH=amd64 build

Then copy the binary to the host and restart the systemd service.

Metal Agents

The metal-agent service runs on all of the compute nodes.

Darwin

For macOS based hosts, build the agent:

make build-agent

Copy the binary to the macOS host and use tmux to run the agent from /Volumes/metal.

Linux

For Linux based hosts, build the agent:

make DOCKER_BUILD_ARGS="--builder multi" GOARCH=amd64 build-agent-in-docker

Copy the binary to the Linux host (/mnt/tank/metal) and restart the systemd service.
